Kostas Yfantis for Champaign County Board District Seven

E Pluribus Verde Unum

Dear Visitor,

I wanted to thank all the voters of District 7 who trusted me with their vote in this election. I feel very honored to achieve the highest percentage of any Green Party candidate for a three-way, three-party race in Illinois. Together, we made Champaign the greenest county in the state and Illinois the greenest state in the Union!

With the help of many enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, I ran a rigorous campaign and worked really hard to get to know the constituents and learn what issues they care about. My campaign reached out to more than 90% of the households in the district. Walking the neighborhoods and interacting with the people that make Champaign County a great place to live was the most rewarding experience.

Equally rewarding was receiving 21.37 of the vote. This high percentage is a strong mandate to continue working to transform Champaign County into a more pluralistic democracy. Voters want a more competitive political market. Between now and the next election I will work hard to promote reforms to our local political system that will make it friendlier to small parties so voters can have expanded choice.

I want to congratulate Carrie Melin for winning the county board seat and I wholeheartedly wish her good luck. I am sure that she will represent her constituency well. I hope that she can work with the rest of the county board to make it more transparent and stir our county towards financial and environmental sustainability.

I also want to congratulate Mark Randall for running a very strong campaign. He became a regular fixture at the county board meetings and his attendance record surpassed that of many existing board members. Voters recognized his commitment and rewarded him with many votes.

Finally a big thanks to everyone who worked in the past to establish the Green Party in District 7! Now that we are are an established party in Illinois Greens will be working even harder to make our democracy stronger and provide voters with more authentic choices throughout the state.
